This coming summer visitors to Iceland will be able to travel WOW air in downtown Reykjavík as the airline will be installing public bike-share stations in Reykjavík.

On Friday the Mayor of Reykjavík announced that the city council had awarded WOW air a contract to build and operate bike-share facilities in the city. Reykjavík had been searching for companies who would be willing to operate the service, ultimately settling on the Icelandic budget airline.

A spokesman for WOW air told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that the company would install eight stations spread around downtown Reykjavík. The goal of the city is to make it easier for people to travel in an environmentally friendly manner. The bike facilities will allow people to pick up a bike at one location and drop it off at another.

This is not the first time WOW air steps into cycling: The airline also sponsors the WOW cyclothon, a popular annual bicycle race around Iceland.
