WOW air continues explosive growth: 46% more passengers than last year

The Icelandic budget airline WOW air has continued its dramatic growth in the past year. The airline transported 258,000 passengers to and from Iceland in October, an increase of 46% compared to October 2016. According to a statement from the airline this growth has come at the same time the airline has increased the number of seats available by 42%.

WOW air currently flies to 38 destinations in Europe and North America. The airline has announced ambitious plans to expand into Asia, offering flights between North America and Asia with a stop over in Keflavík. WOW has become the one of the fastest growing airlines flying to the US.

At the same time as passenger numbers have increased the airline has improved its seat occupancy ratio (Load Factor) from 86% to 90%. The average occupancy ratio for American airlines in July 2017 (the most recent data) was 86.6%, according to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
