Plans are to construct a Viking village in the Reykjavík suburb of Mosfellsbær, reports Viðskiptablaðið newspaper. The village will give visitors the chance to experience how Vikings lived and worked during the early years of Iceland’s settlement.

The village will consist of a turf house, a smithy, a ´thing’ and a stave church, a medieval wooden church building once common in north-western Europe.

“It’s not a question of whether but when the village will be built. It won’t take too long to construct and we hope to open next spring,” said Kristbjörn Helgi Björnsson, spokesman for Stórsaga, the company behind the project.
