Storm warning for E. Iceland today, no travel conditions from Skaftafell to Egilsstaðir

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a storm warning for East Iceland today. Strong gale or storm, with average wind speeds exceeding 20 m/s (44.7 mph) is expected in E. Iceland today. ICE-SAR has issued a travel warning for South East Iceland and the Eastfjords, warning travellers NOT to travel in the area due to storm conditions.

ICE-SAR issued the travel warning on, warning of dangerous winds in S.E. and E. Iceland, affecting the area from Skaftafell National Park in South East Iceland to Egilsstaðir town in East Iceland:

NO TRAVEL CONDITIONS! Dangerous winds in southeast Iceland and Eastfjords tomorrow, Tuesday from Skaftafell to Egilsstaðir! DO NOT TRAVEL!!

Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon is located within the area. A storm which hit the same area on Friday March 24 caused significant damage to cars on Breiðamerkursandur beach and by Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Several cars were hit by rocks thrown by the storm, causing damage and broken windows. Rental car insurance typically does not cover damage caused by wind.
