Photo of the Day: Even the puffins have caught the football fever!
On this day, one year ago, Reykjavík residents woke up to a world covered in snow: The total accumulation was 51 cm (20 in), a record for February in Reykjavík!
This year we haven't seen the sort of record snowfall we got last year. Instead this winter has provided us with plenty of storms and rain.
A local photographer, Gunnar Freyr, woke up early morning February 26 2017 when a tree in his yard fell down, having been crushed by the sheer weight of the accumulating snow. Rather than go back to sleep, Gunnar took off to explore the winter wonderland which was emerging in downtown Reykjavík.
Gunnar put on his winter clothes and boots, grabbed his camera and walked around his neighbourhood for two hours. Gunnar took dozens of great photos of the snowfall between three and five on Sunday morning. The accumulation continued after he got back inside, as it only stopped snowing at nine in the morning.
