Yesterday afternoon the driver of a small tour bus carrying seven travellers lost control of the vehicle on Þingvallavegur road on the Golden Circle. The bus skidded and rolled over, landing on its side next to the road. None of the travellers were injured in the accident. The road was closed for a couple of hours while the bus was removed from the site of the accident.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority had warned drivers of slick and icy conditions on roads over the weekend. The road was covered in ice and packed snow when the accident took place.
The accident took place when the travellers were returning to Reykjavík from a sightseeing tour in South Iceland. Nobody was injured in the accident, and according to the local news site Vísir the damage to the vehicle was limited. The passengers were offered shelter in a second tour bus which arrived at the scene while they waited for a bus from the tour company to pick them up and drive them to their destinations.
