A pivotal moment in the history of Mývatn municipality, North Iceland, happened recently when the local government agreed to build a new street in Reykjahlíð, Mývatnssveit. A road was last built in Mývatnssveit in the eighties.

According to the recent tourist boom in the area has not only brought capital to the region, but also more residents.

“This is a happy day for us. The influx of foreign visitors to the area has prompted people to move to the municipality. Around 150 people now work within the tourist sector during the high season,” says the chairman of Skútustaðahreppur district council, Yngvi Ragnar Kristjánsson.
