Jón Gnarr, the former mayor of Reykjavík, comedian and writer, will serve as the first Rice University’s Centre for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences (CENHS) Writer-in-Residence next year.

The writer recently announced he intended to move to Houston, Texas, early next year. In addition to writing a book bases on his experience as mayor, Jón will do a staged reading of his play “Hotel Volkswagen” and make several appearances on campus at CENHS events.

Jón published the first two volumes in his fictionalized autobiography, The Indian, and The Pirate in 2006 and 2009. His third book will be published in Iceland this autumn.
