Icelandair is sees new opportunities in the bankruptcy of the German budget airline Air Berlin. The Icelandic legacy carrier has announced that it will be commencing direct flights between Keflavík and Düsseldorf in Germany on October 25. Düsseldorf will be the sixth new destination added by Icelandair in 2018.

Other new destinations added by Icelandair this year are Dublin in Ireland, and four destinations in the US: Clevelend, Dallas, Kansas City and San Franscisco.

According to a press release from Icelandair the company hopes the new route will further strengthen the trans-Atlantic service of the airline, while at the same time opening up new travel opportunities for Icelanders in Germany while making Iceland a more appealing destination for German travelers.

Icelandair already flies to four destinations in Germany, Berlin, Hamburg, München and Frankfurt.
