Bárðarbunga is the latest Icelandic volcano to gain world-wide media attention. Since the onset of the earthquake swarm at Bárðarbunga volcano on August 16th, around 2.600 earthquakes have been detected, and the Icelandic Met Office has raised its risk level to the aviation industry to a code orange, indicating a heightened unrest with increased potential of eruption.

In 2010 the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted causing much of Europe’s airspace to shut down for a week. The Icelandic volcano did not only create problems for the aviation industry, but also for foreign news reporters who had difficulties pronouncing its name correctly.

Bárðarbunga is Iceland's largest volcanic system, located under the ice cap of the Vatnajokull glacier in Souteast Iceland.

Here is a short tutorial on how to correctly pronounce “Bárðarbunga”.
