Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. This is a majestic beast with powerfull falls spanning 45 meters (148 ft) high and 100 meters (328 ft) wide. However, the beautiful structure and tourist hotspot could be in jeopardy. The anticipated force from the the glacial flooding of Bárðarbunga volcano could cause the structure of Dettifoss waterfall to alter permanently.

This would be devastating to the popular tourist route around Húsavík and Lake Mývatn, which also includes the Dettifoss waterfall. Scientists believe the velosity of the water could pose problems for Dettifoss and surrounding areas. Tourists around the area are encouraged to stay out of the danger zone and will be given at least 6 hours notice to leave the area if the volcano does erupt.
